Refurbished Grade A vs B vs C — What the Grades Really Mean

What is the difference between Grade A, B and C refurbished devices? Grades describe looks, not function. Here is how to choose the right one.

By , Founder & CEO, WorthyTen

Refurbished and second hand stores often sell the same model at three prices: Grade A, B and C. The grade can be confusing, so here is what it means at WorthyTen.

Grades describe looks, not function

At WorthyTen the grade only describes cosmetic condition. Every unit, whatever its grade, is fully functionally tested before sale. A Grade C device works just as well as a Grade A one; it simply shows more signs of use.

GradeWhat it looks likeWho it suits
Grade A — Like NewMinimal to no visible wearGifts, or buyers who want it to look new
Grade B — Light WearMinor marks or scratchesMost buyers — the best balance of looks and price
Grade C — Well UsedVisible cosmetic wearBest value, especially if you use a case

Warranty by grade

All grades carry a 1-year warranty. The comprehensive part (parts and labour) is longest on Grade A — 6 months on A, 3 months on B and 1 month on C — with labour cover for the rest of the year. See the warranty page for full terms.

Extra assurances

  • iPhones, Grade A: battery under 100 charge cycles.
  • Cameras, Grade A: guaranteed under 10% used.
  • Cameras, Grade C: a mild LCD vignette may appear on well-used units.

How to choose

If you will put the device in a case or bag anyway, Grade B or C gives you the same working device for less. If it is a gift or you care about looks, choose Grade A.
