Documents Required to Sell Your Old Phone, Camera, or Laptop in Tamil Nadu
The documents you need to sell a device exist for one reason: to protect you and the buyer from fraud. Proving ownership is a legal requirement for recommerce platforms in India. Here is exactly what WorthyTen requires — and what to do if you cannot find some of them.
Standard Documents Required
1. Original Purchase Invoice (Bill)
The most important document. It proves you purchased the device legitimately and shows the IMEI or serial number. If you bought from a retail store, this is the printed receipt. If bought online (Amazon, Flipkart), it is the digital invoice — a PDF printout is fine.
2. Government-Issued Photo ID
Any one of the following is accepted:
- Aadhaar card
- PAN card
- Voter ID
- Passport
- Driving licence
This is used to establish the seller's identity and is a regulatory requirement for all recommerce transactions in India.
3. Warranty Card (If Available)
The warranty card is not mandatory, but having it — especially for cameras and laptops — adds to the credibility of the device and can positively affect the offered price.
What If I Have Lost the Invoice?
Lost your original bill? This is common. Here is what you can do:
For phones purchased online: Log into Amazon, Flipkart, or the brand's website. You can download your invoice PDF from order history — this is accepted as the original purchase proof.
For phones purchased from a retail store: Contact the store. Most authorised dealers can generate a duplicate invoice. Provide your IMEI (found in Settings → About → IMEI or by dialling *#06#).
If no invoice is available at all: WorthyTen may still proceed at the agent's discretion, but the offer may be adjusted. Contact our support team on 9843010746 to discuss your specific situation before booking.
What If the IMEI Is Blacklisted?
Before selling, you can check your phone's IMEI status yourself by dialling *#06# to get the IMEI and then visiting the government's CEIR portal (ceir.gov.in). WorthyTen verifies all IMEIs at pickup — blacklisted devices cannot be purchased.
